2015 Fine Swine Wine Revealed

LEXINGTON, N.C. – SEPTEMBER 29, 2015. Continuing the tradition of paying homage to our hometown’s rich barbecue heritage, Childress Vineyards is proud to unveil the 2015 Fine Swine Wine. 

Fine Swine Wine is a limited batch of Childress Vineyards wine created by Winemaker Mark Friszolowski to pair perfectly with Lexington-style barbecue. This year’s vintage proves to be engaging with bright and crisp flavors of cherry candy and raspberry that intermingle superbly with the tangy and smoky flavors of Lexington’s worldfamous barbecue.

As part of the tradition, artist and Lexington, NC resident, Bob Timberlake, designs a custom wine label for the bottle each year, and the 2015 label spares no expense! “Piggin’ on the Ritz” was the thought behind the label, which features a chappy pig dressed in a dapper tuxedo. The Barbecue Festival is Lexington’s most social occasion; even pigs are dressed to the nines for one of the Top Ten Food Festivals in America!

Starting September 30, Fine Swine Wine will be available for shipping orders only. The bottles are $15 each, $12 for Fast Track Wine Club members, plus applicable taxes and shipping charges. As in the past, a portion of the proceeds of Fine Swine Wine sales is donated to the Mental Health Association of Davidson County. Wine Club members with a valid membership card may purchase Fine Swine Wine at the winery beginning October 23. The wine with its commemorative label is only available to the general public during the Lexington Barbecue Festival on October 24 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., at the Childress Vineyards’ tent in uptown Lexington and in the winery’s Tasting Room. Quantities are limited.


In addition to the Childress Vineyards’ tent in uptown Lexington, the winery will be a participating in the Lexington Barbecue Festival’s Wine Garden hosted by the Lexington Barbecue Festival and The Tourism Recreation Investment Partnership (TRIP) for Davidson County Foundation. The Wine Garden will be located directly behind the Civic Center on Third Avenue. Tickets are $15 and may be pre-purchased online (www.thebarbecuefestival.ticketleap.com/barbecuefestivalwinegarden) or purchased at the Wine Garden during the event. Ticket holders will receive a commemorative wine glass and vouchers to be used for wine tasting at participating wineries. Live music will be performed during tasting hours. Childress Vineyards will conduct wine tastings and sales throughout the day from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. A pickup service is new to the Wine Garden this year. Patrons that purchase wine in the Wine Garden will be able to pickup their wine as they leave the festival from a convenient location. This free service will have customers’ purchases available for pickup at the Childress Vineyards’ tent located at the intersection of 5th Street and Main Street.


Business hours at Childress Vineyards will be extended on the day of the Barbecue Festival from 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Also, the Bistro will have extended lunch hours of 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Our Music in the Vineyards series will be hosted from noon – 3 p.m in the new Pavillion. Wishful Thinking, a group that plays a variety of top 40 songs, will be performing. No outside alcohol or food please.

Parking and trolley services from the winery to uptown Lexington will be available from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Cost of transportation will be $3 per adult and $2 per child.
