Childress Idol is Set for Oct. 3-4

  THE DISPATCH

Aspiring performers will once again have an opportunity to showcase their talents at the Childress Idol singing competition.

Registration will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 3 at Childress Vineyards off U.S. Highway 64 West. The competition will be from noon to 3 p.m. Oct. 3 with the finals from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 4.

Each contestant should prepare a 60-second a capella song of their choice for the first round. The field will be cut in half, and the remaining contestants will perform another 60-second song a capella.

The top 10 contestants will compete with music they supply Sunday, and the top three will advance to the finals. Those three will also be asked to sing the national anthem.

The winner will sing the national anthem during opening ceremonies and perform a 10-minute set prior to the WTQR Guitar Pull at the 26th Annual Barbecue Festival on Oct. 24. He or she will also receive a $250 cash prize and trophy from Hayes Jewelers.

BB&T Bank will give Childress Idol T-shirts to the first 50 entrants.

Contestants from ages 12 and up are eligible to enter. They must bring identification that shows proof of age. Anyone under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
